Ecospiral® - Working to Eliminate Mercury from the Environment

Using Ecospiral® actually reduces the Mercury in the Environment. In addition to reducing green house gas emissions, saving consumers money and reducing the United States' electricity demand, many people don’t realize that:

Ecospiral® lights can actually have a net effect of reducing mercury in the environment.

Because coal fired plant release more mercury into the air over the life of the bulbs than the amount of mercury contained in the bulb. More importantly, that mercury is non-recoverable and more damaging to the environment.

For further information go to http://www.energystar.gov

Energy Mad's Ecospiral® and EcobulbR products qualify as Energy Star partners in the US, New Zealand and Australia.

Did you know that the mercury in CFLs is very low compared to that in other household appliances?

Ecospiral® – Continually lowering Metals Content

All Energy Saving Bulbs Contain Mercury, but Ecospiral® lights contain the least. Currently many governments will not subsidize a bulb with greater than 5mg mercury content. The Ecospiral® contains less than 50% this recommended amount. It is one of lowest contents of other energy saving bulbs and we are dedicated to continually trying to reduce this. This amount is so low, that if all of the Mercury from the 2 million bulbs sold to date were to be collected, one would struggle to fill a soda can.

Ecospiral® - Working Toward Convenient Disposal Solutions

Energy Saving Bulbs should be disposed of safely or can be recycled. many local authorities now provide CFL recycling stations throughout the country. We are one of the only companies who has worked to develop a proactive approach to this issue, and we consider this a top priority. See Lamprecycle.org for details of recycling programs.

Ecospiral® – Encouraging Safe Disposal of Bulbs

Disposing of Energy Saving Bulbs at the End of their life:

  • Energy saving bulbs need special disposal, do not dispose with household rubbish.

  • Dispose at your local refuse station; ask staff if they have recycling facilities as most materials can be recycled.

Disposing of Energy Saving Bulbs if the glass breaks:

  • The primary hazard associated with broken Ecospiral® is broken glass, so be sure to wear gloves when collecting fragments.

  • Broken bulbs fragments should be swept into a bag (NOT VACUUMED) and again taken to your local refuse station for recycling
